Canucks Sign Andrey Pedan & Alexandre Grenier To Two-Way Contract Extensions

Vancouver Canucks General Manager Jim Benning announced today that the Canucks have signed defenceman Andrey Pedan and forward Alexandre Grenier each to a one-year, two-way contract extension.

Pedan, 23, appeared in 13 games for the Canucks in his debut NHL season in 2015.16. He recorded at least two hits in each game played and led the team with 3.1 hits per game. The 6-5, 217-pound defenceman also skated in 45 games for the AHL Utica Comets last season, registering career-highs in several categories including games played, goals (7), assists (14) and points (21). Appearing in 129 AHL regular season games over parts of four seasons, Pedan has collected 50 points (15-35-50) along with 258 penalty minutes.

Pedan will receive in 2016-17:

  • $700,000 at the NHL level and $100,000 at the AHL level, according to generalfanager.com

A native of Moscow, Russia, Pedan was acquired from the New York Islanders in exchange for Alexandre Mallet and a 2016 third-round selection on November 25, 2014. He was originally selected by the New York Islanders, 63rd overall, at the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

Grenier, 24, appeared in six games for Vancouver in his first NHL season in 2015.16. He also appeared in 69 games with the AHL Utica Comets, leading the team in both points (48) and assists (32) and finishing tied for the third in goals (16). The 6-4, 211-pound forward then added a team-high two goals and three points in four Calder Cup Playoff games. In 208 career AHL regular season games over parts of four seasons, Grenier has registered 130 points (50-80-130) along with 172 penalty minutes.

Grenier will receive in 2016-17:

  • $600,000 at the NHL level and $125,000 at the AHL level, with a signing bonus of $25,000, according to generalfanager.com

A native of Laval, Quebec, Grenier was originally selected by Vancouver in the third round, 90th overall, at the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

Both need to clear waivers to be sent down to the AHL Utica Comets as neither are wavier exempt.

Vancouver Canucks recall Kenins and Pedan

Vancouver, BC – Vancouver Canucks General Manager Jim Benning announced today that the club has recalled forward Ronalds Kenins and defenceman Andrey Pedan.

Kenins, 24, has played in two games with the Canucks this year and appeared in eight games for the Comets this season, registering an assist (0-1-1) and eight penalty minutes. He split the 2014.15 season between Vancouver and Utica. Kenins appeared in 30 games with the Canucks in his first NHL season, registering 12 points (4-8-12) and eight penalty minutes. In 36 games with the Comets in 2014.15, he collected two points (1-1-2) in five playoff games.

Pedan, 22, has appeared in 19 games with Utica this season, where he currently sits tied for second among Comets defencemen in scoring with nine points (2-7-9). He also played one game with the Canucks this year. During the 2014.15 season, Pedan appeared in 42 games with the Comets registering 14 points (3-11-14) and 70 penalty minutes. Prior to being acquired by Vancouver on November 25, 2014, Pedan played six games with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, recording three assists and 51 penalty minutes.

Canucks recall Pedan, Reassign Fedun

Vancouver, BC – Vancouver Canucks General Manager Jim Benning announced today that the club has recalled defenceman Andrey Pedan from the AHL Utica Comets and reassigned defenceman Taylor Fedun to Utica.

Pedan, 22, has appeared in 15 games with Utica this season, where he currently sits tied for first among Comets defencemen in scoring with seven points (1-6-7) and leads the club with 28 penalty minutes. During the 2014.15 season, Pedan appeared in 42 games with the Comets registering 14 points (3-11-14) and 70 penalty minutes. Prior to being acquired by Vancouver on November 25, 2014, Pedan played six games with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, recording three assists and 51 penalty minutes.

The Moscow, Russia native played three seasons with the Guelph Storm of the Ontario Hockey League before making his professional debut in 2012.13 with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. The 6’5”, 217-pound defenceman was originally selected by the New York Islanders 63rd overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

Fedun, 27, has appeared in 14 games with Utica this season, collecting six points (2-4-6) and eight penalty minutes. He also leads the Comets in plus-minus with a +6 rating. Fedun split the 2014.15 season between San Jose and the Worcester Sharks. He collected four points (0-4-4) in seven games with San Jose and 34 points (6-28-34) in 65 games with Worcester, where he was tied for fourth in team scoring. He also appeared in four playoff games for Worcester, notching one goal.

The Edmonton, Alberta native has appeared in 11 career NHL games with San Jose and the Edmonton Oilers, posting six points (2-4-6) and four penalty minutes.
