Struggling Senators Aim For Home Ice Win

image

The Vancouver Canucks take on the Ottawa Senators tonight in game four of their 7-game road trip at the Canadian Tire Centre.

Vancouver is looking to maintain its lead atop the Pacific Division, entering the game a single point ahead of the Los Angeles Kings, with 19-points.

Ottawa is looking to pull ahead of the Detroit Red Wings in the Atlantic Division into sole possession of second place. Both teams are currently tied for 2nd-place in the division with 17-points each.

The game is the first of two meetings this season between the Canucks and Senators. Ottawa will visit Vancouver on Feb. 25th. Vancouver split the season series versus the Senators last season.

The Canucks rebounded against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday night, to pick up their first win of the 7-game road swing, to go along with back-to-back losses in regulation play and overtime, against Buffalo and New Jersey.

The Ottawa Senators begin a 5-game home stand tonight, after losing both games of a short 2-game road trip against the Carolina Hurricanes and the Nashville Predators. The Senators have only won two of their first seven home games.

Both teams are struggling yet Vancouver enters the game on a more positive note after their win in Columbus.

The objective is clear. The Canucks are looking to win game two on their road trip, building on the momentum of their win against the Blue Jackets. And the Senators are looking to end their two game losing streak and win their third home game of the season, to start a 5-game home stand.

Pope Francis: Put away technology, enjoy family dinners

VATICAN CITY — Pope Francis on Wednesday (Nov. 11) urged Catholics to continue the tradition of a family meal, leaving smartphones aside and switching off the TV to enjoy the “fundamental experience” of sharing food.

“The sharing of a meal — and therefore, other than of food, also of affections, of stories, of events — is a fundamental experience,” Francis said during his weekly audience in St. Peter’s Square.

Sitting around the table helps measure the health of relationships, the pontiff said: “If in a family there’s something that doesn’t work, or a hidden wound, at the table it’s understood immediately.”

Francis also offered guidelines for mealtimes, which he said should be free from phones or other distractions. It can hardly be called a family meal when relatives “barely ever eat together, or (a family) which doesn’t talk at the table but watches television, or a smartphone,” the pope said.

The pontiff is known to shun modern technology, choosing not to browse the Internet or watch TV. He was, however, persuaded by Vatican staff to use a tablet computer in July to sign up for World Youth Day.

The pope also encouraged families to talk and listen to one another over dinner and avoid lavish spending on food.

“In rich countries we are persuaded to spend excessively on excessive nourishment, and then we do so again to remedy the excess. And this senseless affair diverts our attention from real hunger, of the body and the soul,” he said.

Pre-holiday retail jitters sink US shares – Yahoo News UK

A $121 billion brewery mega-merger pumped up European shares on Wednesday, but dismal figures from top US retailer Macy’s pulled Wall Street down on fears over coming holiday sales.

The US slump — which also saw big oil companies tumble again — spoiled a global rally which began with records being smashed in China‘s 24-hour “Singles Day” online sales marathon.

Ben Carson’s Claims About Pyramids Storing Grain Dismissed

Ben Carson, a Republican presidential candidate, has stated his belief that the biblical figure Joseph built the great pyramids of Egypt for the purpose of storing grain. This assertion is being dismissed by experts who say the accepted science is that the pyramids were used as tombs for pharaohs. Despite this Carson is standing by his claim.
